Immigration Law
Family Visas
At MLTLawyer.com our Houston Immigration Attorneys help our clients’ families come together and stay together. You or someone in your family could be eligible for a family visa based on their relationship with a permanent resident or US Citizen.
There are several types of family visas. First there are those for ‘Immediate Relatives’ including spouses, children (who are under a certain age), parents and adopted or soon-to-be adopted children. These visas are given without yearly caps. Then there are “Limited Family-Based Immigrants’. These types of relationships are subject to caps for each fiscal year and further broken down into preference groups. The preference group determines how many visas are given in a year and how long it may take for an application to be granted.

Employment Visas
MLTLawyer.com represents individuals, local Houston businesses and large multi-national corporations in applying for employment visas. Every year the United States issues a pre-set amount of visas based on employment. Priority for receiving a visa for yourself or your employee is based upon the ‘preference level’ of the person receiving the visa.
There are five different preference groups. Employees are assigned to one of the groups based upon their training, qualifications, experience and the type of job they will be performing in the US. There is also a group for those who have made investments in US businesses.

Marriage Visas
MLTLawyer.com can help you through your application for a marriage visa. There are two different types of marriage visas our clients apply for. The first is for couples who are already married, where one of the partners is a US Citizen or a permanent resident. The other is for couples about to be married. For both, the US Citizen or permanent resident partner files a petition on behalf of their partner.
Immigration times can vary depending on which of these types you use, and where your partner is from and where you are both living currently.

Asylum
Asylum is granted to people who are already in the United States but are unable or unwilling to return their home country because of persecution, or fear of persecution, on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. Applying for asylum in the United States eventually permits you to become a permanent resident if you qualify.
Even if you do not qualify for asylum, you may still be able to apply under the Torture Convention if you fear being tortured upon returning to your country of origin.
